Presented as part of the 2027 Ausglass Conference: Making Space

Ausglass is pleased to announce the inaugural PRISM at Ausglass — Practice, Research, Inquiry, Scholarship & Making, a new academic and research-focused program to be presented as part of the 2027 Ausglass Conference at the University of Sydney.

PRISM has been established to create a dedicated platform for academic, scholarly and research-based work connected to glass.

Submissions must be academic, scholarly or substantively researched in nature, but applicants do not need to hold an academic position or be affiliated with a university. We welcome proposals from academics, artists, independent researchers, postgraduate students, curators, historians, educators and others undertaking serious research within or around the field of glass.

Sitting alongside the broader Ausglass program of artist talks, exhibitions, demonstrations and events, PRISM will provide a space for researchers to present substantial conference papers, engage in critical and interdisciplinary dialogue, and contribute to a formal record of contemporary glass research.

For its inaugural edition, PRISM welcomes submissions from Australia and internationally.

The theme of this year’s publication is Making Space.

We are currently looking to expand the research and educational content featured on the Ausglass website by showcasing student led research and creative investigations in glass practice, and in doing so, also creating exposure for developing artists.

Applications are now open for the 2027 conference, to be held in Sydney during mid February.

The Vicki Torr Memorial Fund - which underwrites the Emerging Artist Prize - was established in 1993 as a memorial to Australian glass artist Vicki Torr (1949-1992).  Its purpose is to reflect Vicki’s life and work by encouraging excellence in Australian studio glass.
